How does Neurofeedback for ADHD work?

Children with ADHD have been shown to have increased theta waves (4–7 Hz) and decreased beta waves (13–30 Hz) activity compared with children without ADHD.

Beta waves are associated with attention and thinking, whilst theta waves are associated with drowsiness or daydreaming. Sensorimotor rhythm (SMR) activity (13–15 Hz) is positively associated with motor inhibition.

Most Neurofeedback programs aim to decrease EEG theta and increase EEG beta and SMR activity.

Brain mapping for ADHD

The first step in neurofeedback therapy is to complete a brain map to analyze the function of brain waves before neurofeedback therapy begins. This way the practitioners can tailor a treatment plan to your specific needs and make sure they get the best results possible.

One of the major benefits of Neurofeedback is that a positive and long-term outcome can be achieved after an average of 30 or 40 sessions, with little to no side-effects. Its effects are similar to the ongoing use of medication but without the side-effects of medication. For ADHD or ADD, Neurofeedback has been successfully applied in clinical settings for more than 30 years and is an evidence-based and scientifically proven therapy.

It actually creates new, more balanced neural pathways that can result in a decrease or in some cases, complete elimination of the ADD or ADHD symptoms.

Neurofeedback for Children with ADHD

This type of therapy is intended to teach children with ADHD how to pay. By rewarding children in the same way adults are when they focus, we help them create those healthy brainwave patterns.

Neurofeedback has the following benefits for children:

• It’s medication-free and has no side effects
• Helps a child focus and can lead to academic success
• Reduces the behavioral problems associated with ADHD
• Improves the quality of sleep for your child

Neurofeedback therapy benefits the following symptoms

• Depression
• OCD
• Anxiety
