Janell Strupp

Physical Therapist, CPI

Janell's background includes 25 years of rehabilitation experience as a physical therapist. Since 2010, she has been focusing her efforts on a technique called Fascial Counterstrain. Backed by the latest research on fascia's role in reducing or eliminating sources of acute or chronic pain and inflammation, and having witnessed life changing effects in the lives of her family members and clients, she would love to share the benefits of this innovative technique with you.

How it works

Fascial Counterstrain corrects an overactive stretch reflex. This abnormal reflex causes muscle cells to contract constantly instead of just when it is needed. Waste products build up in the muscle and create tender points, which can be found not only in muscles and joints, but in all the systems of the body including nerves, arteries, and veins.

The treatment has helped those with conditions that had previously failed physical therapy, chiropractics, massage, acupuncture, injections, or medications. It can help people with degenerative changes in their anatomy that may be visible on an X-ray, MRI or CT scan.

Fascial Counterstrain has been used to facilitate healing for a variety of conditions:

  • Acute pain
  • Chronic pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Neck pain
  • Back pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Bulging discs
  • Headaches
  • Heel spurs
  • Muscle strains
  • Sports injuries
  • Myofascial pain
  • Lyme disease
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Tendinitis
  • Tennis elbow
  • Jaw pain
  • Whiplash
  • Ankle sprains

What I can expect after Fascial Counterstrain treatment?

Many conditions respond favorably to Fascial Counterstrain. Clients usually experience less tenderness, less pain, and restored quality of movement immediately following treatment. It is possible for a small percentage of people to experience soreness for 1-2 days following counterstrain therapy due to the release of waste products from tender points.
